How to Find the Right Neurosurgeon

September 18, 2020

Your brain and spinal cord are major components of your body. They control functions that includes your speech, mobility, blood pressure, and breathing, among others. Thus, when you’ve got a problem with any of these functions, you need a neurosurgeon who has great experience with minimally invasive spinal surgery with a known and verifiable history of satisfactory results.

Finding Neurosurgeons in Your Area

First, conduct a search for “neurosurgeons near me.” After getting the results, you need to investigate and compare their credentials and board certifications with other neurosurgeons in the area.

While board certification isn’t a requirement for practitioners, you will want a surgeon who has it because it shows that the surgeon took extra steps in proving his or her expertise in neurosurgery.

In comparing credentials, choose a neurosurgeon who went to reputable schools for both his or her medical degree and specializations. Second, find only surgeons who perform the surgery you require because not all neurosurgeons provide all types of neurosurgery.

Consider Insurance

While price shouldn’t be the main factor, you have to select your surgeon based on insurance. If not, you should find yourself with a hefty out-of-pocket expense.

If the surgeon doesn’t list the insurance he or she accepts, make it a point to contact the practitioner and inquire.

Check on Doctor Review Sites

Once you have your selection narrowed down to a few surgeons, search for reports on the practitioners you feel are most qualified to handle your case.

On review sites, you can find information about any disciplinary action or board action taken against a surgeon. You might also be able to find data on malpractice suits.

You might find other information about the practitioner that is not listed on his or her website that could help you weigh your options better.

Look for Patient Reviews

Next, you should look for reviews from patients who have availed of the surgeon’s services in the past. While one or two negative reviews aren’t a deal-breaker, choose a surgeon who has few to no negative reviews.

Schedule a Consultation

After you have narrowed down the results to one or two practitioners, schedule consultations with them. Devise a list of questions about the surgery and the surgeons prior to your consultations.

Consider which surgeon you felt you are most comfortable with and which one has the most compassion and expertise.

Schedule a consultation with Front Range Spine and Neurosurgery, serving Colorado Springs, Aurora, Lone Tree, Parker, and the surrounding Colorado region, to discover if Dr. Michael Rauzzino or Dr. Kevin L. Boyer is the right neurosurgeon for you. Contact us at 303-790-1800 or via our online scheduling form
